Not if you think it is the easy way to a make fortune! By now the dot com bubble has been shown to be very burstable. It is a sad fact that so far as we know, to date not a single British dot com has made a penny profit. The reasons are not hard to see. Huge amounts of (often other people's) money have been thrown into extravagant projects that were believed to be the infallible path to limitless pots of gold. The only reason they remain in business is that further huge sums of money have been thrown at them. Of course, it takes time for a project to mature, a business to grow, but it has become clear to all that some of this is has been reckless and is no way to carry on. This electronic world is a mirror of the real world. An Internet business plan needs to be as sound as any other. If it is an adjunct to an existing business, it has a good head start. If it is a new project, it needs careful consideration. And above all, prudence. There is much to be said for starting forward cautiously with a modest project, dipping a toe in the water. Like any other business, you can invest more when you can see that it will show a return. So if you have a project that you believe in, or want to pilot, and have a real world approach to your expectations, you are a least ready to consider it. Just as you would be with any other project. For as we keep saying, there is nothing mystical about eCommerce except that the technology of implementing it may not be within your own range of skills. Any more than bricklaying, plastering, or plumbing may be. Think of us as electronic bricklayers and shopfitters. That is what we are here for.
